Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers an area of 321 sqkm and is among the oldest forests lasting over 25,000years. It lies in the south Western Uganda, about 468km/9hours by road drive from Kampala Uganda’s Capital City. The Park is a home to half of the worlds Mountain Gorilla population. Besides trekking Gorillas in Bwindi, you will also have an opportunity to see other primates such as the red tailed monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others. This forest is also home to 120mammals, 51reptiles, 310butterfly species, 27species of frogs, geckos, chameleons, 163treespecies, 104fernspecies, 1000 flowering plants, as well as over 350species of birds such as the horn-bills and the Turacos! Gorilla trekking takes around 2to8hours, which is worth it as those into hiking will have a great time climbing up and about the rolling hills, and going through the lush vegetation. Besides gorilla tracking, forest trails lead to scenic
water falls and rift valley viewpoints, while community walks through local villages provide insights into lives of the Bakigaand Batwa(Pygmy) people living beside the forest. Bwindi is one of Uganda’s top birdwatching destinations with many Albertine Rift endemics present, notably in the high, draughty Ruhija sector.
