SEMULIKI NATIONAL PARK

Semuliki National Park is located in western Uganda approximately about 287km / 8 hours on the road from Kampala. The forested, 220km2 Semuliki National Park occupies an isolated slice of Ugandan territory beyond the Rwenzori Mountains on the broad floor of the Albertine Rift valley. Thanks to the its old ages, the park
protects one of the few remaining ecosystems to have survived the Ice Age. Semuliki links with the Congo Guinea biome representing the easternmost extent of Congo huge and ancient ituri Forest. It is home to around 52 species of mammals, 300 recorded tree species, 374 butterfly species, and over 400 bird species hence among the best birding spots in Uganda and that is why it is called the True birders haven.

The park contains an exceptionally rich bird list with 441 recorded species that include 216 forest birds and 80 Central African species found in few, if any, other forests in East Africa. Black dwarf hornbill, shinning blue kingfisher, Nkulengu rail and yellow throat-ed nicator are just a few random highlights cited by the parks experienced guides. Like avid birdwatchers, primatologists wont be disappointed either. An astonishing 15 species of primate can also be found within a 6km walk from the primeval hot springs that bubble out of the rift valley floor near the parks tourism office at Sempaya. Activities includes; game drives(including the night game drives), exploring hot springs that boil eggs ready for eating, Forest walks, bird watching, cultural visits, primate watching.
